Waylayed by Detroit

Wednesday, March 22nd, 2006

I had thought my itenerary looked a little off.  Seems that StudentUniverse gave me a nasty layover in Detroit.  Not that bad really, only 12 hours.  Oh well, who wants to travel for 24 hours straight anyways.  This way I get a nice break, get to sleep in a real bed, and get a nice breakfast.  Never really been to Detroit before either.  Well, there was that one time.  But we dont speak of that.  Unless we are drunk.  All of us.

By the time I’m able to post again, I should be somewhere in Kyoto.  No telling where exactly, but somewhere.  Much benefit could be had if I would learn to plan my travels better.  But that seems like it would be less interesting, and more work.

Does anyone know of a good hostil or something in Kyoto?  I think I have a couple of days before I can get into my more permanent place.

The stress of moving

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

It’s been quite hectic getting ready for the move to Japan.  I leave in less than a week, and most of my stuff still has neither been packed nor moved.  Haven’t finished my classwork and I’m still not even sure where I’m staying for the first few days.  But these things have a way of working themselves out though.  I’m sure.

I also need to find a new host for all of my web and development needs.  Dreamhost looked unbelievably good until I realized how bad the reviews are.  Too bad, its hard to find a host with ssh access.  Anyone have some suggestions?

The very observant will notice that I have recently made many changes to my wordpress theme.  In particular the additions of ads and a menubar at the top, and the return of my gallery.  Most of the pictures are still missing though.  Adsense has been quite a disapointment so far though.  Apparently you must have TONS of traffic for them to make any money at all.

Interestingly, I’ve found that not only am I #2 on Google when you search for James Wynn, I’m also #1 when you search for a variety of other terms.  I’ve been informed that some of the searchs are quite pornographic.  Dunno how that happened - hahaha.

I’m not gonna give an English translation this time! Bwahahaha. You should still check the two links though, as they will provide enlightenment, education, and… and… Well just do it or your mother will love you less!

やっと日本語にがんばっているよ!

Sunday, September 11th, 2005

This entry probably took me the longest to write so far, which is sad being that it is one of the shorter ones. Japanese is hard though. Doubly so when you dont get to think in it often. I suppose the same could be said for any language though. Perhaps I should have learned a language more easily practicable. Or just learn english properly considering that I severely doubt ‘practicable’ is a real word. Or perhaps it is… which I guess is my point :/

So I tried making okonomiyaki again tonight and I must say that the results were much better than the initial attempt. Instead of using a yam I went out and found real okonomiyaki powder. Its amazing how much less it was just without having to grate a yam. I also used a slightly different recipe this time. Last time it was some random that I found on the net, but this time i used the one right on the back of the okonomiyaki powder bag. Although it was all in Japanese I think it was much easier to use.
