Gallery2Flickr sucks

March 29th, 2006

Ok, perhaps its unfair to say that the utility sucks.  It is the only peice of software available that can migrate your photos from gallery to flickr and it just doesnt do it very well.  I dont know how many people use it, but it took me 2 hours of messing with this utility so I could do about 2 hours of work to migrate my pictures.  Time I COULD have been using to take NEW pictures.

So, if I get a chance I think I will update the script and add a little much needed documentation.  Maybe even add a little front end for the sad little thing.  I mean, it works, but so does a one legged panda on a unicycle.  Its just sad to watch it go.

    You’re welcome!
For some people it worked out of the box, for others it took a bit more work (some people even DONATED money to thank me). For you and your setting it took even more time… This script was built simply, for MY needs, and then shared so other people could use it or build on it etc…
Now you posted that in March… Have you actually built on it and shared it with other people?? you didn’t even link to my sucky script
    cheers

I tried to be understanding about the script. As I said, its the only one that does it, and it DOES work. But you have to admit, the script doesn’t have much of an interface nor is it well documented. If the authentication mechanism had been fixed/updated it wouldn’t have taken much time at all to set up. In fact, other than having to fix this one detail, the setup was quite simple. And I suppose this script was written shortly before the API changed deprecating that method of authentication, so its hard to blame the author for that shortcoming.

I had intended on working on the script and trying to improve it, but I had much less free time than anticipated while I was studying in Japan. And unfortunately, due to a server migration I also no longer have the edited version that includes my fix, so I cannot contribute that to the community. On the other hand I HAVE, despite my critical review, recommended your script to several friends that use gallery.
